The weather man is saying winter is finally coming. Snow should start tomorrow and total 6 to 8 in some areas. I decided to get out for a quick strike before the trout streams shut down for a while. I went down to our cottage in Centerville (about an hour and a half to the south east) and fished Monday and Tuesday.

Monday was in the 50's and sunny! I actually got to fish a dry dropper in freaking December. Caddis were coming off in good numbers. I got about a 50/50 split on the October Caddis and the little Ginger PT. Totaled up to about 10 or so and I got a real nice brown for this creek. He was sitting in a little pothole sorted of tucked up in and surrounded by riffles. He hit as soon as the fly hit the water like he was waiting for those orangish Caddis. It was just a beautiful day to be out this late in the season. I love winter and like steelhead fishing but my heart is with Fall trouts so I was soaking up the last minutes. Pics from Monday:

Tuesday... well the cold front was coming through in the morning. Upper 40's, rain off and on and building wind. I got out asap to beat the dropping temps. It was good but no flies coming off. The fish were still looking for them though and I got my biggest ones on the Caddis. I ended up pretty chilled and wet but it was totally worth it to get a few more little creek wild trouts at the very end of the year.

Nice, but if I had big fish as close as you do, I think I'd be chasin' the bigger fish.

Ralph ;) :D

Helluva report ,Rob. Nice photos also.
Gotta love an October caddis. Hell ,you can fish 14's and 12's all day :D

Yeah,it is going to get cold here for the next 10 days --low 20's at night and mid 30's in the day. Perfect weather for butchering hogs.

Thanks guys glad you liked the report. I am experimenting with the camera and seeing what I can do with it that is kind of neat. I'm starting to use youtube for videos too. I am not sure how to embed them in the post but I can post the links. Here is a playlist of 3 videos from Monday and Tuesday:

Ralph I know how you feel. When I first moved back here in 2008 all I wanted was steelhead and big lake run browns... it wears off. Not to sound like an ass but once you catch a bunch of them it gets boring. They are as dumb as they are big. Once you find them you sit there and dredge a bobber over eggs or nymphs changing colors until you find what they want. It's just not all that exciting. Now all that said ... man when you hook up they are pretty fun!
