OK, I got lonesome for a little brookie action and decided I'd find some fish down here in WNC to play with. So last Friday I headed up to a small stream up off the Blue Ridge Parkway at about 5600' elevation that I had heard about. After a nice downhill hike I hit the stream about 10:30am and since the water was already at 56 degrees I decided to wet wade. This is a neat stream that is fairly open making it difficult to get close enough to a pool to cast to fish without spooking them--extreme stalking is required!

It took a little while for me to get back into stalking mode but once I did I started pulling in fish like this colorful char:

As I worked my way upstream I began to get multiple fish from the pools:

Please note, not a bow or brown in site, this is a brookies only stream!

Most of the fish were in the 4-6" range but I did get a few that ran to 8" and I spooked some even bigger ones.

I finished out the day with over 2 dozen brookies to hand (more LDRs). While they may not be as big as some of the real monsters I used to catch in SNP I bet I'll find them once I have a chance to go back to catch the ones that got away, plus I know of more streams in the same area that have promise as well--Larry :D

Those are beauties as far as I'm concerned! Thanks for the pics.

Take Care,

Fly, load the hippie van with the midgets and the tent. I'll bring the stove and the frying pan.

Yea, those are perfect eating size. We can get some bacon and eggs, corn meal, taters and onions and just spend 4 or 5 days just catching and eating fish

Man what a trip, that place was full of brookies. I don't think I will want fish to eat for a long time :D . Thanks FD for the hot tip, btw don't get too far from the car in that area. They have to send the rescue squad and sheriff out looking for lost hikers and fisherman about once a week during the summer :? . Easy to get turned around down in them dark places with all them greasy and shiny rocks. Plus a GPS is useless, can't get a signal :o

Still licking my lips! You need to get shock collars for the midgets if you want me to fish with you again. I'm tired.
