After reading "possssed" fine report and pics, I am ashamed to say that I went fishing today. Figured that the SoHo would be clogged with fishermen getting out on a nice day in winter, so bagged the 1 and 1/2 drive to the Soho and went to the Watauga DH 15 minutes from my house. Bad decision on my part.

Arrived at my favorite pools to find three anglers there. I hiked down anyway and asked if I could fish behind them. "Sure, we're leaving, it sucks" they said. Of course, the fishing sucked, the wind was blowing 15-30 mph, and I didn't bring a coat or gloves.

I stayed, fished the busted pools and runs, and finally caught two little 8" rainbow stoggers on a #20 midge dropper behind a PT with a BB shot. I was cold, the wind was blowing hard, I forgot to wear a jacket, and after the fourth tangle of the dropper due to wind gusts, I called it a day and came back home.
No pics. There's no reason to bother with pics of 8" stoggers. :D

I shoulda gone to the SoHo or a blue line. So -- "At least I got out." Yep. Henh.

I think most of the DH fish have starved to death by now. Sorry you did not have a better day. If it makes you feel better, I have made 4 trips in 2011, 2 of them I was skunked.
