So for Xmas leave I find out a friend of mine in VA is heading to NY for some lake-run fun. Sweet, I'm so down. Due to time/distance restrictions I couldn't make the drive with him and instead took a 20 hour train ride from Fayetteville to Buffalo, NY. Oh and I was greeted by the backseat of a honda civic coupe and another 2 hour drive to reach a warm bunk bed. However before all of that I had to dig these vermin out of my boxes of goodies and yum yums...

The place we were fishing is an Ontario trib, and judging by the pics we took and a little help from google images, I can tell that in the fall the trees put on a beautiful and colorful display. Almost makes me wish it was October instead of December.

Now I had heard rumors of the combat fishing in NY for salmon in the fall, I was hoping against hope that I wouldn't encounter this. Didn't see as many fisherman as I thought I would, of the three days I fished only 1 day were the air temps below freezing. Their loss I suppose...

Now on to the good stuff!

Of all the rainheads I caught, none of my camera bearing friends were around to witness it. Oh well, I did help this guy land his fish. 30" and 12lbs taped and weighed. Yes that is my hand throwing up the shocker in the second pic :P

First day was something like 18 degrees, and I had my single hand rod chucking eggs. First fish of the trip was a two foot class brown that a local helped me land. I ended up letting him take it home as he was on his way out with no fish. I think the words, "Thanks for helping me save face with the in-laws." were used.
Second day bumped the air temps into the 40's and the day was epic, everybody landed at least one rainhead, I even landed three on the swing. Chartreuse egg was the magic fly, with my fushia intruder a close second.
Day three and the air temps dropped again to right around freezing, fish didn't wake up until after noon. I missed two grabs on the swing, and then two more with my buddy's egg chucker. Oh well, such is life.
Have a good'un
