Made my yearly winter trip to the Davidson on Monday. Thought it was best to ease into the new year instead of working.

Got to the stream around 10:30 and spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon hitting up some section of the stream that have been kind in the past. My plan was to throw streamers most of the day in some of the deep pools. It was slow at first, but then this guy hit a black bunny streamer.
Also picked up a few rainbows

Didn't get any real pigs, but the brown hit the streamer like a champion.
About 2:30 I moved up to the hatchery section. I noticed a few risers, so I tied on a 22 bwo dry with a sz 26 midge dropper and leroy came out to play. He put up a good fight, but the dry fly held until I could net him.

Temp was in the mid 30's all day then about 3:00 I started getting ice in my guides so I assumed it dropped below freezing. Just as the temp starting dropping and the wind picked up a bit, the fish starting going nuts. Every 2nd or 3rd drift was a strike. Mostly on the midge, but a few more on the dry. At about 4:00 a nice rainbow broke me off b/c my guides were completely frozen. My fingers were to numb to re-rig with 6x so we called it a day. It started snowing as we left. I'm thinking the fish felt the front coming in and decided to chow down before the storm. Nothing like dry fly fishing in January.

Sounds like a good trip in spite of the cold. Some nice fish.
