I also got to try out my new boo. I got connected with a new rod builder in Granite Falls, John Smith. He built me a 7'6 5wt, built on a Wayne Cattanach taper. He did an outstanding job. Its slow action and is by far the smoothest rod I have ever cast. It took a while to get the timing, but when I did it was pretty freakin sweet. A lot more backbone than I expected and had no trouble making any cast all weekend. Can't say enough about John's quality and craftsmanship. That guy knows what he's doing. Check him out if you are interested in bamboo.

I'm glad I saw this. I don't recall if you told me earlier which Cattanach taper it was but my guess it is the "Sir D". I'm glad you like it and I need to make that trip this year.

Minis are good. Mostly jagr, with very little bomb :D

Fleming, I think that is the same person. He's in Granite Falls and I got connected with him through carolinaonthefly.

Probably is then. He's been busy. IIRC he was thinking about getting into tying at the time. I guess rod building just never came up. I have not been over on that board in a long time.

a great trip indeed - and Jeff is right tying at night made all the difference the next day. Not a bad way for me to rehab my shoulder after surgery last month :) Had the pleasure of netting Darrell's big fish after close to 45 min of him layin in the bottom of the hole head shakin. Fun stuff

Those of us who are temporarily 'pond-bound' thank you for the pics, Jeff. And isn't it a joy to fish with the cane? I'll try to find a bluegill or two to cast to later today...with my Gary-refurbished rod.

And JT, don't hold back, tell us how you feel about that fly. Chuckle.

Yea, I'm kind of scared to see where this new found addiction takes me. I should probably start looking for a support group. :D
