So after Ralph mentioned there were big fish like 10 mins from my house and I didn't have to go after those little wild trouts I decided to go give em a go for a couple hours this morning. It was cold.

I grabbed a coffee and had a pipe as I was gearing up

I fished a while missing a couple and losing one that seemed like it was a nice fish. The water was super low and clear. Not many guys were out and that is nice as this place I went can be insane. I mean the DEC runs a booth there and you pay 3 bucks to fish. That ends when shotgun deer season starts but still it gives you an idea of how packed it can be. So it was cold and the conditions were not great and I think that is why there were only a dozen guy there.

I was swinging streamers and nailed a nice hen steelhead who had been in the stream for some time as she was super dark. No fresh chrome in the stream at all.

I took a little break and got a cigar going. I told myself I'd work down the run swinging a streamer and if I didn't get anything by the end of the smoke I am would call it a day and head home to warm up.

About half way through the cigar I was at the end of a swing and a massive brown hammered the fly and took off. He ran me down the stream and I was just holding on and trying to keep him out of the rocks. He did the typical roll, roll and roll and wrapped himself up in the tippet. Some how I managed to get him uncoiled and keep him on the line. He took me so far down stream away from my pack (and net!) that I was close enough to one of the few other guys to ask him to help me. Nice guy came up and did a great job netting him. Massive fish! Biggest brown trout I have ever caught and I owe part of it to Ralph and some guy I didn't even know. He seems to have weighed in somewhere around 17 pounds!

Thanks guys... especially Ralph :D ... I am was thinking of doing one of those artificial mounts of this one. 30.5 inches but it's sort of expensive. I'm still kicking it around. I've caught bigger salmon but they fight like a car fender. This one might be the biggest brown I ever catch.
