It's getting pretty late in the season for small creek steelhead in WNY. Honestly I was planning on going for some inland trout today but a friend of mine, who works way too much, asked if I was free to go for steelhead. He had not caught any steelhead in years and for some reason thinks I know what I am doing. I told him I know where they are and catch them... sometimes... but I'll try my best.
Almost anyone else and I would have said well I'm going inland trout fishing you're welcome to come. But I've known Shawn since little league and I really respect him as an outdoorsman... he is the type of guy who has slept all night in his tree stand going for a huge buck he'd been chasing but also let's lot of deer walk. So I said meet me there at 7.
We fished in very bad conditions (under a foot viz) for about an hour with nothing. There were a dozen or so other guys there not catching either. Once the sun comes up above the east ridge of the gorge the fish turn on... some days. Not long after the sun hit the water Shawn hooked this nice female on a streamer swung down and across.

That was the only fish I saw caught all morning! I was so happy he got it.
