I haven't fished for brookies in 2 months. The water was down a bit from our recent heavy rains, the weather nice and cool, so I gave it a go. I was very disappointed and concerned about this creek -- heavy silt has washed down the mountain from a road construction project up the gravel road. Oh, no.
Missed pics of my first 2 fish due to my usual clumsiness juggling net, fish, rod, camera, etc. Managed 2 good fish in one pool upstream, then a few more on up. Missed several more, including a big one that I wanted bad.
All in all, a fine day, some fish, but I'm worried about the creek.

Nice brookies! Love those fish....

Silt is primarily a problem if it is still there when they go to spawn. Silt will smother the redds and kill the eggs. Since brookies don't spawn until late Oct. or even Nov., there's still time for the stream to clean itself up a bit. We'll keep our fingers crossed.

Good fishing Phil .Thanks for the share. I can see all the sand on the floor of your creek and that ain't good. It has a bad effect on the bugs also. When there is a ton of sand around the rocks , the bugs cannot get under the rock for protection and to get food.
I would strongly suggest that you go have a look at the road to be sure they have their silt fences up properly , etc. If not, get EPA on their ass.
I am with Paul also on this. You need a strong rain to clean some of that sand out of there.
Looking at it through your pictures , I say that creek is in the early stages of extreme distress.
When you see pools like those with most of the rubble covered up, the creek is going to be short lived in terms of a trout fishery

I know, JT. I'm really worried. It's my favorite brookie stream. Breaks my heart.
So many others around here have gone the same way -- running out of brookie streams.

I took this pic 3 months ago.

Today, the same pool was so covered in silt that not any of the rocks were visible.

On the road going to our Cabin there are two slides from the rains on the other side of the creek Each one is 100 yards long and 40' wide. There is no way to get to them for repair

Beautiful fish and such a shame the sand is built up. I’m hoping for a bunch of rain for you buddy! It’s be horrible to lose a stream that pretty.
