Fished the south Fork of the New River on Sat. Wanted to do some scouting for the August trip. Stream was at 280 CFS and 2.2 feet. More water than normal for this time of year. Water was clear in Jefferson with a slight tint at the 221 State Park where we launched. Caught 40 fish in all, partner was counting. All but one fish caught on popping bugs, Sneaky Pete. Chartreuse and White both caught fish. Caught mostly smallmouth with a few red eyes and red bellies thrown in. Caught fish all day with one or two lulls. 10" to 16" fish caught, lots of 12, 13, and 14 inch fish.

Float was shorter than normal due to increased flow, normal 9 to 9 1/2 hour flost only took 8 1/2 hours, off the river by 7 and started at 10:30.

Will be back up that way next weekend, had tons of fun!

See ya on da river,

Ralph ;) :D
