Well the weather finally broke and they opened the Niagara River Anglers Association pond. It was nice to be back there except for a band of gypsies who had moved in for the weekend. I took a new 5 wt I built over the winter for it's maiden trip. I like it but it's more of a casting from shore rod. Sitting in the kayak longer rods are better. I didn't start until around 10 and it was slow... I was picking up fish here and there but nothing steady on the yellow and black Bully JT sent me last year.

First fish on the new rod

It got to be about 1 I was getting hungry and I had maybe 10 fish of so and I was about to call it a day and get some lunch when I saw a big boil at the very back shore of the pond. I got over there and it was a pod of grass carp noodling in the shallows. I set up about 30 feet away and took the splitshot off. I got about 3 casts to them before other fish started hammering the fly on the fast retrieve. 1, 2, 3, 4, 10 it was a feeding frenzy. Hit after hit. I forgot all about being hungry. Bass, Crappie, Pumpkin Seed, Blugill ... the carp left so I didn't get any of them.

I ended up fishing until about 3. It was a pretty cool afternoon. I can't tell you how many fish I caught and that Bully stayed together and it is safe on my drying patch. I have a few videos I'll put up on the PFF Facebook page

Hey Bob yeah it's a Black Crappie. That pond has little bit of everything. They have super cool stripes. Check out this pic below ...The black stripes even go across the eye... super cool
