Got out right after sunrise this morning to catch the morning bite at a local pond. Action was pretty strong until about 9ish and it slowed down. Best part of the day was watching about a 6-7 lb female chase fish off her bed all day. Once the fishing slowed down, just sat and watched for a while. Pretty cool to see her attack anything that came close. She chased anything that moved right up to the bank so that her back was out of the water. There were a few others in spawning mode as well. Resisted temptation and didn't cast to them, but now I know they are there now.

These guys put on quite a show when hooked

Don't know what got into these gills, but they were straight up pissed about getting hooked. I didn't see any beds, but I imagine they had a little extra testosterone in them. I thought each one of them was a bass when they hit the fly. They sure were fun

Just for comparison, this is a Geezer gill

Good stuff, Jeff. Those gills HATE getting caught and the tug they give lets you know that, eh?
I've been out at the pond the past few nights and the fishing has been on fire. Right at your feet you can catch them and bigger than I've seen in a while.
Great fun for sure.
