The bass fishin was tough though....they were up against the bank or in the thickest of lily pads.....I lost at least a dozen flies to gettin' hung up and a dozen more to getting wrapped up and broke off.....lost a lot of fish in the pads and a few really nice ones......Screw lily pads!!

Hope you all are findin' some fish.....here's to hopin Smokey shows his ass up in a couple of weeks to float the Saluda!!

Well done Tom. Looks like the pond is producing some nice ones.

JT....I've been warned to keep the crappie herd thinned out or they will over populate quickly....I've only started catching them in the last 2 or 3 yrs and they've been steadily getting bigger....I'll probably give them one more year to hopefully spawn before I start extracting any. As far as the brim go....was mostly smaller ones....I think most of the big grunts were back in the pads spawning where the big bass were hanging out.....the smaller ones seemed to be holding more out in the open and along the edges.

Tom, from the number of crappie that you have been catching, I would suggest that you go ahead and start keeping them now. Crappie that are Winter or Spring caught taste much better and firmer than summer crappie. Once a pond gets out of balance,it is hell to get back into balance.
Taking 25-50 now will not hurt the pond and will only enhance the growth rate of the remaining crappie.
