I have been fishing a farm pond in Rowan Co. for as long as
I can remember. My earliest fishing memory probably about age 4 with my dad was on this pond.

Yesterday after one of this summer's typical downpours I thought that conditions would be right so I headed to the pond. The farmer said they got 1". Fished from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Best fly was the Bully that is shown in the pics. I believe Gary Jones tied it and gave it to me. THANKS Gary. Dragon fly nymph also caught plenty.

I had some excellent shots at a grass carp that must be 40 lbs., but I will be conservative and est. 30. I had everything perfect. Close range, perfect casts, good pattern, but the fish was in a non-eating lazy mode. I put it in front of the monster 6-8 times, never spooked him, but never could get him to eat. It left me shaking. I know grass carp have been in the pond at least 10 years and maybe 15. This is a BIG old mature fish. My problem will be if I ever hook it...I was fully prepared to get in the water and wrassle if the battle got that far....

FYI, I was fishing a 7 wt. That should give a reference point. I just measured the cork handle and it is 7 1/2 inches long. Those were nice Blue Gill and I am fortunate to have a place like this to fish.

Here are the nicest 3:
(No, I have not enhanced or tweaked the color. Taken w my Droid phone.)

Good stuff Ben! Bluegill are awesome..... I took the little one out Sat. with her pink flyrod and caught a couple....was gettin' hits like crazy on a japanese beetle pattern but kept missing them....switched over to a foam catalpa worm with legs and managed to hook up with a few....then the boat battery died...then it rained
