For any of you guys vacationing at Emerald Isle or MHC, you need to fish the inlet, at Fort Macon. Some say it is best on last couple of hours of falling tide, others say anytime. Good place to park, bathrooms, just a very easy outing. They do close at 8:00 pm, I think.

Was down there yesterday. You walk down to inlet, you have about 4 feet of very shallow water, about 10 feet of light blue, deeper water, and then it gets a bit darker. In theory the fish cruise right at the drop off, so you are only casting 20 or 30 feet, and most are caught at 10 feet or so.

I was just in the water, out about 2 feet (cooling my toes) and, am flailing the water, and nothing happening, about 95 degrees, and all of a sudden......

About 10 - 15 yards either side of me, the water erupts...I was right in the middle of a near Biblical Event. Went from 0 to 60 in no seconds. Blues and Bait are in the air, on the beach beside me, everywhere. Not just visual, but a literal roar. My fly was in mid-air, hits water, small blue fish. Three more quick casts, three more bluefish.

The school moved down the inlet, but I just stayed put, trying to re-live in my mind's eye (and ear) what had just happened.

Yes, I have fished blitzes before, but I have never ever been literally in the middle of the start up, it was just too cool.
