Had a great day in the salt at Beaufort Inlet on Thursday. Caught some spanish mackeral with top water, Hipp style, poppers, I had dressed for salt water. The challenge now is that the bait is small, so I am trying for a small popper, but one that will make some noise. Here are some I have used/tied recently...the lower two on the right have produced Spaniards.

Had a really big one on, might have been a big blue but cut me off (40lb) shortly after hook set. Big blow up and splash...a knee knocker!! For sure.

Went back Sat afternoon. Stiff wind in the face, and a billion boats in inlet. Poor decision.

Word gets out in a hurry, don't it?

Interesting poppers. I never thought about using them as baitfish in the salt....
