We are on the neap tides, and the water is clear. The reds are schooled up on the low tide flats. With the clear water we are able to see and cast to the fish, instead of just casting to wakes and pushes.

If the sky is bright and the wind is down, on mid tides, we are able to pole or troll around the oyster rakes and see the reds just sitting there waiting to eat. I had one give me rope burn on my line finger last week he took the fly so hard.

On the high tides, the reds are floating in the flooded grass. A well placed fly usually produces a bite.

I am using smaller, lighter flies in this clear water. The tan/pink Simran bonefish fly in a size 4 or 6 is producing well.

The trout bite is going crazy right now. I had two bait anglers on the boat earlier this week on a four hour charter. We lost count after three dozen trout. Then we ended the day on a low tide flat where they hooked up with twin 9 lb reds at the same time!

Life is good in SSI. Come on down and enjoy some spectacular late fall fishing.
