Lifebuoy Deer Hair Caddis

A View from Underneath

The hook is a size 12 standard dry fly.
The thread is 6/0 Hot Orange.
The abdomen is brown/orange/gold hand-blended poly dubbing, with a small ball of gray/brown rabbit fur dubbed as the thorax.
The wing, head, and "hackle" is simply a cleaned stack of orange deer belly hair (NOT bucktail, Riverboy ) that's tied tips over the eye, butts trimmed to shape the wing, and tips spread outrigger style, and lashed with figure 8 wraps to hold the tips out. Head is thread.
These things float forever, and can be tied in a myriad of color combinations. This one's an October Caddis, but they work great in grey, tan, & cinnamon, and smaller ones are terrific in black.
I love me some caddisflies!
