What do my friend on here recommend for midge boxes when you are on the water? Thanks.

I like to bum them from Blakes box.
JT and Ralph also have good ones!

My fat fingers don't do little flys very well.

I will say the vast majority of things I know about midge fishing is due to Blake. This is the style box I use Image

I switched to the Orvis slim box this year. It hardly takes up any room and keeps them organized well.

My buddy has one of those Cliff's Day's Worth boxes with a big magnet on one side that I've always admired for midges. I've never liked the compartment style boxes because the hooks get tangled together. I use a C&F box that works ok but I think the magnet beats both styles.

I like these....

they have a larger grey one too.

I also like the idea of the "days worth " boxes with the magnetic pallet....I'm just too cheap to buy them.

True story - I became interested in tying because a few years back my "day's worth" box fell out of my pocket within 15 minutes of my attempt at solo fishing on a hard-to-reach WNC blue line. That ended the day. Chapped me enough that I decided to save money by tying my own. They are nice boxes but I am still mad about losing @ $50 in flies. Just think of all money I have saved up to this point. :o

The boxes that I posted have a little ring for attaching a strap or clip....in fact mine came with a wrist strap.....

the down side to these boxes is that they are'nt water tight.

Ralph:

That box looks pretty neat. Which size, 12 or 18, do you believe is best?

I'm leaning towards the one with 18 compartments, but have concerns that large fingers might have trouble removing tiny flies.

Thanks Bill
