What do they say about lifetime rod warranties? I want to say that it is something along the line of the manufacturers have the built in cost of 5 replacement rods into the original purchase cost.

I don't want to bash Orvis but I suspect that replacement costs are built into their prices. So the question becomes: "Would you pay less for an equal product without the same level of customer service?"

Orvis started the warranty fad with their 25 year warranty on rods. Others had to get on board or lose customers. Looking now it seems their rods are covered by their 100% satisfied standard warranty but on that I ain't fer sure.

To answer your question, yes, I would gladly take a huge discount on new rods for a lesser warranty. That rod would still have to have some sort of manufacturers defect warranty with it as that is something the buyer cannot control and should not be responsible for.

My dog (Brittany) likes their stuff. Generally, I do too. And they've been around forever. I saw a guy break a Wes Jordan rod on a fairly large brown one time. They replaced it, signature and all, no questions.

Did they replace the brown with one of equal size?

They didn't have to. I used the old "hand-over-hand" retrieve and landed the SOB for the guy. It got a bit dicey, but I prevailed.
