"Common names" can be confusing because we use the same terms to describe multiple, often unrelated, species of flora and fauna. The fish JT is referring to is an Opsanus tau. Along the NC coast, that is what is called a toadfish. There is more than a little resemblance to a toad. There's a little more info here: http://www.chesapeakebay.net/bfg_toadfi ... item=14404

The fish in the first picture, I believe, is a Sphoeroides maculates, commonly known as a Northern Puffer, and among NC coastal fishermen, it's often called a blowfish, although that name is very misleading, as it doesn't blow anything. Here in NC, it's the only puffer most fishermen see. It's fairly common when the water water temperatures begin to cool, and they move back out into the ocean from the estuaries. Almost every one I've caught was in November. From the same WEB site: http://www.chesapeakebay.net/bfg_northe ... item=14403

Chuckle, I know that, JT. By the way, I had a few guys I've known for years to come out to Loch Geezer to do the annual pre-winter culling of the bluegill population (Catch-and-eat fishing). These were a collection, probably around 4 dozen, of the biggest 'gills ever caught here in the pond. Send me your cell phone # and I'll send you a pic of one of the stringers of fish. Even the editor of "Pond Boss" magazine was impressed when I sent him the photo.

And if anyone knows how to convert a cell phone pic to something that can be put on this forum, please let me know.

E-mail the picture to yourself....save it to a file...and then proceed as normal.

Oh, you techie! But some of us have ancient cell phones that don't do email. Perhaps we should join "Occupy the Davidson River" and beat drums so you Wall Street folk are forced to share the wealth of your ipods with those of us who are too lazy to get our own "pods".

Geez, that's a slightly different question. On this board, your can't post a picture directly on the board. Instead, you have to upload the picture to an image hosting service, like PhotoBucket. From the image hosting service, you copy the url, and past it between img tags. The finished line looks like:
[img ]http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g199/phg_photos/IMGP1359.jpg[/img ]

In the above line, just delete the spaces between img and ], and you get:
