There's actually a specific water temperature in the river that triggers the run. I'm thinking it's around 55f, but I'm not totally sure. Anyway, on the Roanoke that usually happens toward the middle of Feb. More southerly drainages have earlier dates. This unusually mild winter we are having, may mess up everything this year, though. The lakes aren't cold enough, we aren't getting the cold winter rains, etc, etc. For a good shad run you need high, cold water in the rivers. It'll hurt the striped bass and white bass as well.

On the turkey feathers....
Got the batch for your pal together today streamer. Anyone else needing feathers just needs to ask. Have good supply (enough to fill a garbage bag) of primary and secondary wing feathers, coverts, base of tail, tail and a smidgen of marabou. Hope to keep the current rate of resupply this April.
