Here's an idea that may keep the cost of a fishing license down for us 'purists' who don't keep fish. It may even improve the fishery. A large part of the cost of a fishing license is for stocking. Many of us do not keep fish yet pay the same license fee as those who have to max out their limit (or more) every outing.
On the SoHo those of us who don't keep fish aren't depleting the resourse of those non-stocked brown trout so why do we pay as much as those who do? If you think about it, we non-keepers are subsidising those who keep fish.
Coming from a tight-ass on a fixed income who does not keep fish, how about dropping license fee's for those who don't tap the resourse and add an extra fee to those who keep fish? The government would get the same amount of money or more and a few people might just be persuaded to become catch and release fisherman further saving the resourse and costing the states less for restocking. Waddya think?

I think that is one of the smartest ideas I seen in a long time, so these absolutely no chance it would be adopted. I'll bet that the stocking program is a money looser anyway.

Harumph!
He wouldn't last a minute. The kind of guy MSNBC talks about every night.

See, the kind of program now in place is exactly what the current administration endorses. You have all these evil rich catch and release fly fishermen not paying their way so the funding of stocking fees with their license purchases is just redistributing the wealth and a neccessity.

There now, is the headache gone?

Dang, Peddler! You're going to screw with my Medifish, aren't you? I've been paying into that for years and in just a few years I'll be able to reap the rewards with a $30 lifetime license. That money has been in a lock box all these years and a young pecker-head like you better not screw that up!
