Here's pretty much the colors I've been tying and using:
#16 Olive scud back, olive sow/scud dubbing, black mono rib
Image
#16 Clear scud back, tan uv ice dub, black mono rib
Image
#16 Clear scud back, orange and dark olive sow/scud dubbing, black mono rib

Haven't done much studying up on scuds, mostly tried to tie what I've seen in the river and checked out patterns in fly shop bins. School me on the red thread/head if you will :D .

Nope, I was going to post pics of some trout crack, but don't know which buttons to push to post pics.

Plus, scuds are not don't have much glamor, so folks don't tie em and fish them that much.....which is perfectly fine with me ;) .

Ralph :D

This is one Gary Borger showed me, said it was good for the Gunpowder river in Maryland. Maybe it would work for the tail waters down there.

Just so ya'll know, i have sent pics of Trout Crack to Disco to see if he could post those pics for me. Reckon he's bee too busy. I like the Trout Crack tied by John Wilson because it's an easy tie, durable, and it catch fish ta boot! :D After Trout Crack, Randall Kaufman's scud is hard to beat for me.

Ralph :)

Peewee, I hadn't though about using ostrich on a scud but I like yours and will have to try some.

WK you didn't kill any of these contests, the owner of the other sandbox wasn't playing nice so we just found another playground. You still tie some really nice flies and make me work harder to try to get as good as you guys.

I haven't tied any scuds since my last trip to the White River a couple of years ago so here is my Arkansas version.

#16 scud hook, weighted body, gray squirrel blend dubbing, black wire rib and plastic back.
