So I've been working on a few mouse patterns. What I've come up with looks pretty good and is a hodge-podge of ideas from various mouse patterns. Baiscally the body is made of 2mm black foam, black deer hair, and chammy for the tail. I took it out on some nearby water to see what it looked like in action. I'm pleased with everything but the tail. The tail wrapped itself around the hook every cast. Not quite sure what to do. Leather would be a bit more stiff but not have the action. Any thoughts out there? 'Preciate it! -Knox

Another idea might be to put some glue on the tail neat to the butt of the mouse to stiffen it some and let the end wiggle. Seems like most slick tailed rodants I've seen in water the tail does n'treally move so much side to side.

That video was perfect. All that's missing is a 30" brown in that pool..... and not the floating kind that stinks. -Knox

Hey Knox,

You really do have yourself a great mouse pattern. Make sure ya don't let overboard see that one quite yet...we need to let him suffer a bit.

I was comparing the tail on your mouse to a store bought one. One obvious difference is that the diameter of your tail is the same from beginning to the end. The store bought mouse is tapered down to the tip of the tail. I would think that a taper plus flytire's trick will solve the problem.

Bets are on about how long it will take for the local fly shop to have copies of your mouse sitting in their fly bins :o .

have you tried using a piece of tan & black variegated chenille? you can singe the tip & maybe even thin the tip (I haven't tried), but it swims pretty well like it is.
