A friend ask me the following:
" Looking for a gift for a left handed fly tier and wondering if any vise can be used by a lefty.??
Also, I'd like your recommendation for a really good beginner vise that can be used to tie those Davidson River midges."

What are you alls recommend for these two situations?

Thanks

A cam action vise doesn't care which way it is turned.

It's not a cam action, but for a beginner, I have no problem recommending the E-Z Rotary Vise that Hook and Hackle carries. At $50, it a lot of vise for the money. The locking mechanism is mounted on the back of the head, and it's just a matter of adjusting the lever to the most comfortable position (a Renzetti is similar). The jaws have 2 adjusting knobs, one on each side, so you have to reach under to change the adjustment, whichever hand you favor.

Funny that you ask about the lefties. I bought a used renzetti on ebay that's a lefty :o :o . Overdraft told me to buy the darned thing but didn't tell me it was a left handed version  .

It's not pretty but I can let him have it cheap if he doesn't mind starting with a second hand vise.

The original Thompson were I think the cam action and I have one you can have if you want. I have used it but it works just fine. No charge if you want it let me know.

I have a LH Renzetti traveler -- no complaints here but I am not exactly a talented fly artist, either.

Man...I can't believe you bought that whole load of crap about how it was a "lefty signature series special edition" and worth a lot more
Or when Streamer told you that you could use bucktail to tie deerhair bugs.....
or when I told you that the turd fly was good for carp and you went and......Oh never mind....you just ain't right in the head!!
