So.....I am sitting at my tying desk this morning organizing my thread, wire, tinsel, floss, etc.
I am making a list of contents and putting into boxes by color, size and type. TWU walks in and asks what I am doing.

I tell her.

TWU asks: "Why?".

I say: "So that I will know what I don't have."

She laughs.

Why?

Because she understands fly tyers better than you think.

Mine knows roughly what everything on the bench is for. Makes it hard to spin a tale about need or excess without a lot of questions :)

It's a mystery. Millions before us have earnestly sought answers to no avail. We speak different languages. Many aspire; none have attained. Bottom line: there is no answer that will satisfy. But, if it helps, I understand completely the sorting of materials and the incessant need for more.

Hang in there.

I found an empty spot of real estate on my tying desk yesterday. I quickly ran to the local fly shop and bought something to fill it up. My wife never noticed.

GREAT methodology! But would that be an organized/neat desk or a chaotic/ know-where- everything-is desk? Inquiring minds have a need to know.

I bet nearly ever fly tier in the world has at least one set of those clear plastic three drawer boxes.
