thses are the first flies I've tied since lyin & Tyin :oops:

saw Aaron's clousers (well done by the way Aaron!) and thought I'd give chartruese a try

Still got it :) I like that gar fly. I noticed some last year in the river and couldn't get em real interested in a Clouser. Gonna have to tie some of those up for the river box.

Tom, thanks for the comment. Nice looking flies, too; bring some to Ks&Ds so I can inspect further.

Gar will be a target (again) this year - I know where they hide on Lake Wylie and my friend with a boat is almost always ready to go. We had some opportunities last summer but I swear those rope flies can be about like trying to throw a dish rag. I like the idea of adding a hook. I might try a hook and fewer strands of rope (max of 3). I could probably be satisfied with connecting since a LDR on those suckers does not sound 1/2 bad.

Brad, they like a loooooong snack. As I recall, we were throwing flies over 6 inches. They will also follow but I have read that you want to bring the fly up along their side and they will lash out for it.

The one in the photo is 6" and yeah...casting may not be real pretty :lol: I had three last summer explode on flies...If I remember right...two were on zonkers and one on a baitfish popper. I spotted them sunning at the surface and threw out 8-10 ft ahead of them and they would torpedo after it....but obviously could'nt connect....hope this year is different. :D

P.S. I put it on a hook figuring it might act as a keel....and who knows...should some other monster from below decide to eat it....I'd hate to have a hookless fly! I figure a gar will try to go for the middle and if running the hook of my whip finish tool thru this is any indication....it should hang thier teeth good!
