tied some big meanies for gar.....I'm thinking the flies needed more action to provokestrikes so I tried a popper head and a couple swimming/diving heads.....I like the way they turned out.....and If they work ...I'll be tying more. I'm also thinking they would make good musky/pike flies with a piece of wire in the braid holding a trailer hook.

Not a gar guy, but the paint job on those heads is remarkably good. Nice work, Tom.

Brad....thanks....they really are'nt much....braided E.P. or slinky fiber, a little streamer hair and flash on the top and bottom and some 3mm loco foam folded over for the head.....worst part is trying to tie the end of the tail off and getting a decent whip finish without getting all that mess caught up in the thread :|

I had to sit in a warehouse today while getting unloaded....so I took some rope in with me and worked on de-braiding it....gonna make some more popper head flies.

I'm seriously impressed. A heck of a lot purdier than my ropes with eyes added with a Sharpie.

Well done!!!!!

Are the scales technique a secret or can you post here how you did that?

Those are really great looking flies.
Superb craftmanship!
How do you get those beautifull flies out of the Gars mouth in one piece and undamaged?

Herb
