I know Blake had the good sense to go fishing, so I will ask here.

The list had a dumbbell option that said "with 3D eye." That seemed like a good idea to me. My flies need all the help they can get so I thought eyes could be the magic touch.

However, I have since come to notice that other dumbbells from other vendors are made for those 3D eye stickers. I was thinking these would come with eyes pre-affixed. Does anyone know the answer?

Cheers,

Aaron

Aaron...your partially right...though the eyes may come in a package seperate from the dumbell eyes....or they may already be affixed to them.....I don't like doing the 3d eye on the dumbell eyes because they fall off easily....usually about the third cast. I prefer the dumbell eyes with the ceramic insert....or to simply put weight into the body of the fly and then adding 3-D eyes with epoxy. May I ask what type of flies were you planning on using these on? maybe I can give some suggestions.....you know how much people value Overbrooks opinion :D

I am lookink to add some general inventory since the prices are good. So far, I use dumbbells for clousers -- bass, stripers and salt. Thanks for your thoughts.

Aaron I ordered some for making Clouser for the local rivers. Looking forward to them.

Brad, did you get the "3D" version?

I have been using those silver colored dumbbells with pre-attached stick-on eyes. The stickers fall off while they are still in the bag, but I still like them all right.

Word on the street is that zap-a-gap is the magic potion for making eyes stick, even if the lanky curmudgeon from Wagner says otherwise.

Just not sure what it is that I am getting through the group order. More curiousity than concern.

OK, that's Brad, Aaron, phg and Peddler looking for dumbell eyes. We need to order at least 1000 of whatever kind we order. I don't need 1000, but I could use 200. Basically, I don't care as to the style, but I would like the small size. What's anybody else asking for?

How do you get the 3D glasses on the trout so they can fully appreciate the 3D eyes on the fly? :geek: Man, this fly tyin' stuff is really gettin' complicated and high tech.

Paul,

I ordered 200 each of the silver dumbbells. Size small and medium.

Aaron....sorry I'm just now getting to this....but here are the eyes I was telling you about... "real eyes plus" by Spirit River...

Image

Image

here are a few I made this morning using t-shirt paint.....

Image

I wanna let these thoroughly cure for a day or two....then I will pick at them with a bodkin...smack em' against a rock whatever....and see how well the t-shirt paint holds up....I'll let ya know my findings.....though for the money I prefer the real eyes plus....or just standard painted lead eyes......I have yet to find a good way to keep the 3D eyes on these dumbells.
