Colin,

This one looks awesome. Proportions and technique are improving with every one you do. Your floss work is better, but I was most impressed by the married wing and proportions. Keep it up!

Name wise... (and plumbob knows this) I am horrible about coming up with names for flies. Red, yellow, black, claret (or is it purple?)-- the only thing that is coming to mind is a scarlet tanager (type of bird).

Caleb

Colin:

'Masquerade'

Your colors are as vibrant as the costumes, at the Masquerade Ball, in Phantom of the Opera.

LOL, Thats why I tell you to pick existing patterns to tie up first. You don't have to wrack your brain trying to think of a name. All kidding aside, giving a name to a pattern is tough, had this talk with Caleb. I always found that when you try to force a name it never seems right. Sounds weird but I would always let the fly tell me the name. Look at it from time to time and something will always just pop into your mind that will seem to fit for you. Others may not like it but then they didn't tie it up. If nothing should come to mind then leave it blank and give it a number, like No Name number 1. Take a picture write the receipe in and give it a number. Odds are you'll never tie another one up. Have a load of patterns I've tied up, a lot of No Names.

"Colin's Bonny Lass." I just showed this to my wife, the famed Lady Miriam, and her comment: "That is just beautiful."

Colin, I received this from a friend of mine (Scottish writer, Sandy Forgan, author of 'The Scottish Fishing Book', past team member 'Scottish World Fly-Fishing Championships Team', and past president of the 'Scottish Anglers National Association) who grew up fishing places like the River Spey and and salmon pools of the River Tweed, had this to say about your fly:

Please have your young fellow-tangler send me 20 dozen of these salmon patterns as soon as possible. . . . I wish to ensure that he ties them with adequate consistency. If he wishes me to quality-assure other patterns, to gain full statistical significance, at least a dozen of each pattern and size is required. It is with (hardly any) regret that flies cannot be returned !!

Seriously, this guy is truly excellent. We don't use 'fully-dressed' flies in Scotland, but I greatly appreciate his skill and mastery of this traditional craft. If you are in contact with him, please pass on my hearty congratulations !!
