I happened across this video and decided to give it a try:

That technique of using pliers to flatten out the lead wraps underneath really creates that flat, broad profile. Mine aren't as good as his but I plan on testing them out on some brookies as soon as the spawn is over.

Small world or what? Bamboo10 was the presenter/guest fly tyer at the last CFFC meeting and he showed that trick when tying his woven stone fly.
