Yesterday I was at a fly shop when a guy brought in all sorts of old, classic fly fishing gear. To get some idea of the age, one of the Orvis bamboo rod tubes had the original price tag on it of $69.00. Thumbing through the stuff I saw a few of these and just had to have one. It cost me a casting lesson but I thought it to be way cool and quite possibly an example of how pattern change over the years. I grabbed a modern muddler from the fly bin to show the guy how they evolved.

Very cool. Was he willing to part with the bamboo for the original retail price?

When I have to buy a fly for a casting lesson do you think I had $69.00? Someone else talked him down on it. ;)

Great piece of history. I know he benefited from the lesson as well.
