Fly Tying Classes

A Beginners Class will start on Jan. 3 and a one-day session on Tying with UV Resins will be Jan. 12, at Carolina Mt. Sports in Statesville.

The Beginners Class will kick off Jan 3 at 7pm and run for the next 5 weeks on Thurs. evenings from 7-9pm. The class will cover basic tying skills. Students will tie nymphs and dry flies, including Hare’s Ear, Pheasant Tail, Prince nymphs as well as Elk Wing Caddis and wooly buggers. Materials and tools are furnished for the evening classes. Cost is $65. Class size is limited so please contact the store at 704 871-1444, before January, to reserve a seat.

“Tying With UV Resins” will be held Sat. morning Jan. 12, from 9-noon. UV resins are relatively new to fly tying. Three of the most popular are Clear Cure Goo, Bug Bond, and Loon UV. The class will cover the characteristics and uses for each resin. UV Resin is a great substitute for epoxy. The class will tie midges, nymphs, dries and streamers with these resins. Students should be comfortable with the fundamentals of tying all these flies. Cost for this class is $20. Please call the store asap to reserve a seat.
