I tie a lot of #14 dries for the creeks..............therefore I buy the hooks in lots of 100 or a pair of 50 pkgs.

I open up a pack of number 14's and yes,all the hooks are 14's ,but about 1/2 of them are 1X long heavy shank. The rest are thin wire standard #14. Annoying !!

Tell me that someone else has encountered something like this

What brand were they? I've had a lot of Tiemco hooks with partial eyes, wrong hooks in the pkg. I had a pkg of 200R hooks where the first 6 or 7 out of the pkg broke in the vise...I wrote them and sent the remainder with the letter and the fuckers never bothered writing back...haven't bought any Tiemco hooks since.

Damn,Tom

They should have at least sent you a fresh pkg of the 200R's. This pack was from Mustad and I have never had a bad hook or wrong hook from Mustad in my life. I have used Mustad hooks by the thousand and will continue to use them. I will just mark this up to a forgivable error at the plant.
Yes , I have had hooks break in the vise and hooks with bad eyes, but not from Mustad. I also like Daiichi Hooks very well

I've had a few mustads bent a little funny. Tmc' s won't bend they snap. Yeah I figured good policy they might send me a new pack and maybe a free be for my trouble...but nothing...they didn't even send the old package back and tell me to go screw myself. I haven't tied many trout flies in the last couple of years....mostly all bass streamers and stuff and I don't buy anything but Gamakatsu.

Yeah,

Gamakatsu makes good stuff. Have you tried the Daiichi in streamer size hooks.

I think that a brittle hook like some of the Tiemco hooks are just not worth a shit creek fishing (Especially with nymphs) Lets say that you fish for 3-4 hours with nymphs. You will hang up at least 40-50 times and if you snatch out a brittle hook,it breaks the point off and then you are fishing on credit :o

Yeah Disco,
I am sure that you have not or cannot remember what one looks like since you quit fishing 2 years ago. Stop by the house and I will show you one (in a trout's mouth )
